With
last week turning out to be a consistent weather week the fish responded well
with excellent numbers of white bass and a pretty good catch of walleyes each
day. With Thursday and Sunday being extremely windy it made fishing not
very enjoyable, 5 out of 7 days of good fishing isn't to bad. The best
bite has been right in the river in Winneconne with most of the guys using the
Winneconne Fly Rig, Pink/White and Purple/White were very popular fly
colors, or a Wolf River Rig and a soft body jig tipped with a leech
prevailed on the bridge. Bridge fishing continues to be impressive with
early morning or late evening being the key times to catch walleyes. The
trolling bite is just starting to get underway with most guys reporting a few
walleyes , a northern or two mixed with some white bass being average catches.
Not excellent but should improve with this next weeks forecast calling for high
60's all week, might need a rain suit with forecasts predicting rain the next 4
out of 7 days. I think the river bite should stay excellent just keep
that wind away. White Bass are probably the best fish to get anybody
excited so take a kid fishing now!
Crappies
have been pretty consistent in the channels around Winneconne with the
bluegills starting to show up just need that water to warm up a couple degrees
and that should explode. Woodeye's Bar and Grill held their 1st annual
Walleye Tournament allowing 2 people per boat to catch 5
walleyes over 15" caught over 130 fish on Saturday. With the help
from Steve Brooks and Wolf River Resorts releasing fish only 3 Fish were unable
to be released. Excellent Job Guys!! Woodeyes 50 Boat
